Bet on your Baby

Constructivism theory is learner centered and it is an active construction of knowledge by the learners, while the teachers is merely facilitate and guide the learners. The learners also have their learning at their own pace.

One of the concept in constructivism that I appreciate most was the Scaffolding. It refers to the guidance provided by a more knowledgeable other that is adjusted to fit the current skill level of the learner. When I read the definition of scaffolding, it reminds me of Bet on your Baby show. The baby are given a task inside the baby dome and he/she is accompanied by one of her parent (MKO), then the parent will explain to the baby on what is the task and how it will be completed. Then the baby will do the task, while doing the task the parent is cheering on him/her and when the baby is confused and needs help (ZPD), the parent will guide again the baby. And when the task is complete, the parent will praise his/her baby. In this example, the baby are guided by the parent before doing the task (Tutoring), and while doing the task if the baby got confused or needs help (ZPD, the baby enters the ZPD and to attend the willingness to learn of the baby), the parent (MKO) will guide the baby. Scaffolding will take some time for the learner to master the topic and it needs patience for the MKO.
