I first knew constructivism approach way back in 2017, when CHED instructed the colleges to switch to Outcome-based Curriculum. My dean said that the educators in the OBE will be facilitator to student’s learning. It’s hard for me to be just a facilitator to my students because I get used to the traditional one. Right now, I’m still using the traditional approach but it is combined with the constructivism approach. It takes a creative mind to construct an activity for the students but when you see how they are learning, it makes be proud to them.
As I learn the importance of constructivism in teaching, I’m eager to share it to my co-faculty in our department. They resist to switch to constructivism approach, but I will still encourage them to use constructivism teaching gradually. I will share to them the impact of using the constructivism approach to our students. Also, like what I did, I will encourage them to combine first the traditional and the constructivism approach until they will get used to constructivism approach. I can also suggest students’ activity for their class. It may be hard for them but it will soon bear fruit.
